Autumn is here and it’s Pumpkin Hat time

Pumpkin hat time is here.  It seems everywhere I look traces of Autumn are finally arriving in my neck of the woods.  OK, so I live in San Diego, California and there aren’t many signs of the seasons changing.  However, stores are now decorated with items that remind us it’s Autumn.  Pumpkins are making an appearance in windows and advertisements.  Halloween is just around the corner.  Pumpkin spice lattes are brewing and I am crocheting pumpkin hats.

Crochet Pumpkin Hat

I decided to design a pumpkin hat that can be worn by babies to adults.   I used medium weight acrylic yarn for my hat.  The hat in the photo I used an H hook however by adjusting the hook size the hat can be made for various sizes.  Here is a suggestion for hook sizes.  Please remember that everyone crochets with a different tension and these are just suggestions.   I used a fpdc (front post double crochet) stitch to simulate the ridges on a pumpkin.  You can choose any shade of orange and green for your hat.  You could even choose a ten or brown color as pumpkins come in a variety of colors.

Easy to make Paper Roses. Beautiful and Inexpensive Gifts

Paper Rose pen

Paper Roses

Paper Roses are fun and easy to make.

When we were kids we would make crepe PaperRoses.  They make fun and inexpensive gifts for Mother’s Day,  Teacher Gifts or Secretary’s Day.  You can make them as stand along roses or place them on the top of a pen for a fun and pretty alternative to a plain pen.   You can make several rose pens (in different colors) and place in a small cup that is then placed on top of a desk.  These are perfect as inexpensive gifts.  With so many teachers and other people to give gifts to sometimes staying within our household budgets can be a challenge.  These are pretty  and inexpensive gifts.

Make them in white instead of red for a fun sign in pen for showers, weddings, etc.   I purchased all supplies except the green crepe paper (couldn’t find any) and pens from my local Dollar Tree.   I also used a low temp glue gun (and glue sticks) that I had previously purchased at my local Michael’s store.

I was featured on NBC News

facing yarn wall  How I was featured on NBC News

(Update:  Since this post I have also been featured on Fox,  Univision, Telemundo, and many other newspapers since my story was picked up by the Associated Press)

Today has been a very exciting day.  I’m not sure if you  follow me on facebook or not.  Well I shared how I have attended the #WeAllGrow summit in Long Beach, California in the beginning or March.  It was a really great summit with hundreds of Latina (mostly) bloggers, creatives, authors, content creators, etc.  The venue was beautiful at the Maya Hotel right next to the water.  We could see the Queen Mary museum from our rooms.  This was my first year attending and it did not disappoint.  I was fortunate enough to be selected by Ana Flores the creator of WeAllGrow and Latina Bloggers Connect to part of a panel.  The panel was titled “How to successfully launch a YouTube channel.”  Although I do not consider myself a YouTube expert I have learned a thing or two in my years as a YouTuber with my “All Crafts Channel” and wanted to share some of my wisdom with others.   I really enjoyed it and met some really nice lifestyle and beauty bloggers with whom I  shared the panel.

The summit had many valuable sessions, workshops, awesome sponsors such as #Dove, #Neutrogena, #Mazda, #YouTube, #TurboTax, #.Me, Aguacates de Mexico, and #O-P-I just to name a few.  The event was really great.  I highly recommend it.  One evening we had a Storytellers event which was moderated by my good friend Kathy Cano-Murillo aka CraftyChica.  Several women shared their inspirational stories.  I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place.

These are my easiest baby slippers / booties ever! Theses little slippers / booties are super fast to make and use very little yarn.

I used an acrylic medium weight yarn but the sizes could be adjusted. They work up so quickly you can re-make a new one in a different size if it doesn’t quite fit.
