Great News! The Odds ARE stacked in your favor!

I have some Great News for you.  The Odds are stacked in your favor!

I wanted to share something little different with you today.  This is a post from an old blog I used to have a few years ago.  With all the pressure of being liked and with social media our self-esteeem and self love can really take a toll.  Being able to judge yourself fairly is oftentimes difficult.  We seem to be our own worse critics.  What others might see as minor flaws when we see ourselves we are much more critical with ourselves than we are with others.  The good news is that the odds are stacked in your favor.  I don’t usually share personal thoughts but I hope you enjoy it.    I originally shared this back in 2011.

While watching the news on TV (I try to avoid this as much possible!) I read one of those comments that scrolls across the bottom of the screen. Usually I ignore them but this caught my eye. My girlfriend was over and we were channel surfing (waiting for another one of those “chick flicks” to begin, when we both spotted this comment. It read, “Scientific studies suggest that 10-15% of the people you meet will automatically not like you.” Wow, that is really something. My girlfriend said, “Did you see that? Isn’t that awful, that is a lot of people who will automatically not like you.” I had to laugh because when I read that I thought “Wow, that’s pretty good so the large majority of people will automatically like you.” I said this to her and we both laughed. Same comment two very different interpretations.

It reminded me of the joke about two shoe salespeople that go to an isolated island to sell shoes. The first one arrives and sees no one wears shoes. He sends a message to his Corporate office that reads, “Returning to Headquarters tomorrow, No market here. No one wears shoes.” The second salesman arrives on the very same island and sees the same situation. He immediately sends a message to his Corporate office which reads, “Send 10,000 pairs of shoes immediately! Huge market potential. No one here has shoes!” Same situation opposite interpretation.

If this study is really accurate, since we all know stats can be twisted to fit the persons bias, this is actually really great news. The odds are stacked in your favor that people you meet will either:

1) like you instantly

2) be indifferent

3) or can probably be influenced to like you

Okay, so that leaves the other 10-15% I haven’t forgotten about them. When the actual news story came on they stated that no matter what you do, 10-15 percent of people will simply not like you. It seems that there are just some people who just will never really care for us. So, my suggestion is stop wasting your time and precious life energy on them. The best course of action is just to love them, wish them well and move onto the remaining 85-90% of the people who will like you.

Isn’t it odd that so many times we focus all our attention on the people who don’t like us? I’ve done that too. It becomes an obsession at times. I mean after all, don’t we send them Birthday cards, Christmas cards, we invite them to our get togethers, etc., we always greet them with a smile and they still don’t seem to like us. We try so desperately to win them over. Yet they remain unconvinced. Admit it, we all want to be liked. It’s part of our nature. No one wants to think someone doesn’t like them…. BUT, just think of what life COULD be like if we freed ourselves from the need to be liked by everyone. Imagine the possibilities that could bring into your lives. You would be free to spend your time, energy and resources on those people who actually DO like us. This is actually comforting to me since my my new “job”  requires that  many new people watch and hopefully like my videos everyday in order to be successful.  Talk about pressure.  (BTW, go check out my YouTube channel and see if you are one of those ones that will like me.  Here is the link:   AllCraftsChannel )  If you prefer pretty pictures go follow me on Instagram:  Yolanda’s Instagram

85% – 90% out of 100 is a HUGE number! Businesses would kill to have that kind of market share. It is outrageous! Yet, that is exactly what this study is suggesting about the possibility of people liking you instantly or having the possibility of liking you and becoming your friends. I’m taking advantage of this new-found knowledge immediately. I will automatically assume you are part of that large majority that likes me. I will no longer be afraid to approach people for fear they might not like me, or need the service I am providing.

So, are you part of my 85-90%? I certainly hope so….if you are not, there is no need to reply to this post (j/k). I hope you have a great day and feel encouraged by the fact that the odds are stacked in your favor! Start today to live your life from that perspective. It will change your life. It has for me. I now hold the “market share” of favorable encounters with those all around me. Think of the entire population of the world.. that is a lot of people out there who when given the opportunity to meet you will like you…. Wow, life is good!

You have the right attitude. I don’t care people like me or not. And it don’t bother me either.

I am one of the people who “like” you Yolanda. It is very interesting how people perceive what they see or read. A positive outlook is always better.

Awesome post! My moto in life is that people can take me as I am and they can either like me or not. Life is far too short to let something like whether someone likes you or not to consume not only your time but your life. With all that said, it is very nice to know that there are people like yourself out there in the world, and by the way I am one of the percent that like you!!!!😀

Love your videos and love you for all you have given to us with your positive attitude and the sacrifice of time to help us all be better individuals. I have learned so much from you and I know I will continue to learn even more along the way. I have made many of your baby outfits and just finished the christening dress for a friend. Hopefully I will be one of the lucky winners of the yarnspirations give away. Love the Bernant blanket yarns and the Paton yarns for making baskets and blankets. Also prefer the caron yarns for making the many baby outfits that I make. Thank you for your inspiration and your great blogs.
