Learn to crochet this Bunny Hat

A Crochet Bunny hat seemed like the natural project with Easter just around the corner.  It’s a fun and easy Crochet Hat.  You can adjust the sizes to make it from baby to adult sizes.  The hook recommendations are just a general recommendation.  Everyone crochets at a different gauge.  I tend to crochet and knit on a tighter side.   You will need medium weight yarn.  I chose white and pink but you can choose your own colors.  I have made this same in a Light brown and beige for boys.  You will begin by crocheting my basic beanie in White medium weight yarn.

Written instructions on next page.  Please continue reading for full instructions.  Please visit my YouTube channel for lots of other great tutorials besides this hat at: http://www.youtube.com/user/yolandasotolopez

Hook size suggestions  (remember everyone crochets differently).
Infant- Size G Hook

Babies Size H hook

Toddler Size I hook

child use a size J hook

Adults size K hook and a heavier weight of yarn.

The pattern is the same for all sizes.  Only the size of hook and weight of yarn changes. This makes this the perfect beanie pattern for all sizes. From Baby – adult size. Follow the same pattern.  If you have someone with a larger head (as sometimes happens) you can add another round  of increases of round 4.  (See optional round 4 instructions)

IMPORTANT: There are two methods for starting this beanie.

Method 1 uses the magic circle .  Work Round 1 – 12 the same for both methods.

Method 2:
Method 2 uses the: ch 4, sl st into 4th ch, ch 3 to move up to round 1
Work Round 1 – 12 the same for both methods.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and thru out) 11 dc into the circle, sl st into top of 3rd ch
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc) dc into same ch, 2 dc in each ch (increase in each ch) for a total of 24 dc’s, sl st into top of 3rd ch
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc) dc into same ch, 2 dc in each ch (increase in eah ch) for a total of 48 dc’s, sl st into top of 3rd ch
Rnd 4 – 12 : ch 3 (counts as dc) dc into next ch, 1 dc in each ch for a total of 48 dc’s in each rnd. Sl st into top of 3rd ch

I changed yarn to pink on the 12th round but that is optional

Rnd 4 (Optional round for larger heads):  ch 3, (counts as dc), *dc in next st, dc into the next 6 st, 2dc*, rep from * to *, dc in ea remaining st, sl st into top of 3rd ch

After round 12, fasten off. Be sure to cut your yarn long enough to be able to sew in your tails. Cutting the yarn too short makes it different to blend in your tail.

Bunny Ears (  Make 2 in white, Make 2 in Pink )

Chain

Row 1:  Chain 10, dc in each ch beginning on 4th ch from hook

Row 2-11: Ch 3, dc in each st

Row 12: ch 1, hdc2tog (decrease), hdc in next 3 st, hdc2tog

Row 13: ch 1, hdc in st, fasten off

Putting the ears together:  Lay one pink ear over the white ear.  Sew both layers together along the outer edge of the ears.   Repeat for other ear.  Sew ears onto hat.  I used the outline of the 2nd round as a guide.  (See photos below)
