 Small Crochet Baskets

Crochet these baskets if you’re looking for a way to contain and organize your small items.  They can be made in various sizes.  They work up quickly and easily.    They also make a great gift for baby showers, just fill them up with baby items, or make a set of 3.   Size shown above is the small size.  Measures 6 1/2 ” by 4 ”

Gauge is not important.  Instructions are for small size.   To increase size of your boxes add an additional 3 -4 ch in your beginning foundation row.   All other instructions are the same.  I used at the same time.  I used the Bernat Blanket Yarn.  It can be purchased at Joann or online at Yarnspirations

Crochet Basket Materials:

Super Chunky Yarn (6 weight) or 2 strands of Medium worsted weight yarn (weight 4)  I used the Bernat Blanket Yarn.

Stitch Marker.

Size K/ 10 1/2   6.5 mm Hook

To Begin:  Ch 16  (small box)  Ch  19 (medium box)  Ch 23 (large box)

Row 1: 1 sc in ea ch, beginning in 2nd ch from hook  (total 15 sc)

Row 2-9:  ch 1, 1 sc in ea ch (total 15)
Row 10:  (Working in BACK LOOPS ONLY)      Ch 1, 1 sc in each ch, (total 15)
Row 11:20:   ch 1, 1 sc in ea ch (working thru both loops of ch)

Row 21:  (Working in BACK LOOPS ONLY)      Ch 1, 1 sc in each ch, (total 15)
Row 22 – 29:  ch 1, 1 sc in ea ch (working thru both loops of ch)
Fasten off after row 29.

Sides (with opening for handle).  Rotate your piece.  Now you are working on the middle section of your rectangle.

Attach yarn to BACK LOOP only of  row 10 (where you had worked in back loops only of previous piece)

Row 1:  ch 1, sc into same ch, Work 10 sc into space between the  row 10 and row 20 of previously worked piece.

Row 2-6:  ch 1, 1sc into each ch (total 10 sc)
Row 7:  ch 1,  1 sc in next 3 ch, ch 4, leave 4 ch unworked, 1sc in last 3 ch
Row 8-9:  ch 1, 1 sc in ea ch.

Repeat on other side.  Your piece should look like this.  See photo   on following page.

Fold your sides next to each other (with the back loops ridge along the bottom facing out).  Now attach your yarn to 1 of the bottom inside corners.  Sl st thru both layers.  It is easier to work only thru 1 loop of each chain.     Repeat for all your sides.
To finish:   Attach yarn to any space along top.  I usually start close to the corners.
Row 1:  ch 1, 1sc into same ch, 1 sc in ea ch along each edge.  Work 2 sc into last ch of each section.  Work in your tails as your work.   Fasten off, leave tail to weave into your work.  Use crochet hook.
All Done!  Enjoy.
