Learn to Knook – First 2 Lessons

Learn to Knook Kit

Knook Kit from Leisure Arts

Learn to Knook.

Do you want to learn to knook but thought it was too hard.  It’s easier than you think and it creates beautiful “knit” look items.  I have seen the knook kits around and several people have commented they wanted to learn how to use them.  Since I knit I didn’t find much need for learning.  However, after receiving so many requests for tutorials I decided to try it out.  My friends at  LeisureArts.com were kind enough to send me several sets to try out.   I have played around with them a while back but then life got busy and I didn’t have time to really try them out.

This week I uploaded 2 new videos on learning to knook.   They are short videos that hopefully explain how this little hook creates the same stitches as traditional knitting.   The first video will teach you how to create the “knit” stitch.   Click below to watch it.

I was featured on NBC News

facing yarn wall  How I was featured on NBC News

(Update:  Since this post I have also been featured on Fox,  Univision, Telemundo, and many other newspapers since my story was picked up by the Associated Press)

Today has been a very exciting day.  I’m not sure if you  follow me on facebook or not.  Well I shared how I have attended the #WeAllGrow summit in Long Beach, California in the beginning or March.  It was a really great summit with hundreds of Latina (mostly) bloggers, creatives, authors, content creators, etc.  The venue was beautiful at the Maya Hotel right next to the water.  We could see the Queen Mary museum from our rooms.  This was my first year attending and it did not disappoint.  I was fortunate enough to be selected by Ana Flores the creator of WeAllGrow and Latina Bloggers Connect to part of a panel.  The panel was titled “How to successfully launch a YouTube channel.”  Although I do not consider myself a YouTube expert I have learned a thing or two in my years as a YouTuber with my “All Crafts Channel” and wanted to share some of my wisdom with others.   I really enjoyed it and met some really nice lifestyle and beauty bloggers with whom I  shared the panel.

The summit had many valuable sessions, workshops, awesome sponsors such as #Dove, #Neutrogena, #Mazda, #YouTube, #TurboTax, #.Me, Aguacates de Mexico, and #O-P-I just to name a few.  The event was really great.  I highly recommend it.  One evening we had a Storytellers event which was moderated by my good friend Kathy Cano-Murillo aka CraftyChica.  Several women shared their inspirational stories.  I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place.

Crochet Carrot Bag

Crochet Carrot for Easter

Crochet Easter Basket Carrot

Crochet Carrot Bag

Easter is almost here and for many that means Easter Egg Hunts and Easter Baskets.  There are so many baskets to choose from on the market but how about crocheting something a little different.   A few years ago I crocheted this little orange carrot bag.  One of the reasons I really  like it is that kids can use it after Easter is over.   I think it is a great Easter Projecter – Crochet alternative to traditional basket. During a Easter egg hunt the bag can be used to store your Eggs.  After the holiday it can be used to carry small toys.

Great News! The Odds ARE stacked in your favor!

Choosing Yarns from my yarn shelves

Yarn Storage

I have some Great News for you.  The Odds are stacked in your favor!

I wanted to share something little different with you today.  This is a post from an old blog I used to have a few years ago.  With all the pressure of being liked and with social media our self-esteeem and self love can really take a toll.  Being able to judge yourself fairly is oftentimes difficult.  We seem to be our own worse critics.  What others might see as minor flaws when we see ourselves we are much more critical with ourselves than we are with others.  The good news is that the odds are stacked in your favor.  I don’t usually share personal thoughts but I hope you enjoy it.    I originally shared this back in 2011.

Crochet Square /CAL 2nd Square

Crochet  Granny Square Variation

Second Square of CAL with Kristin Omdahl

The second square for the “Springtime Afghan CAL” is ready.   I used 2 colors for each square and alternated the colors to get a little more variety.  I am using a sport weight yarn with the weight category of 3.    You will need to be able to work a magic loop or circle.  If you are not comfortable doing that you can begin by chaining 4 and sl st into the 1st chain to form a circle.   You will also need to know how to change colors.
