Fair Isle Hearts Hat
Today I will share my newest hat; a hat using the knit stitch and Fair Isle Stitches. It was inspired by a knit hat that was released by Caron yarns a few years ago. It was on a little handout that you get from the yarn aisles. I used the Simply Soft by Caron yarns by Yarnspirations. The yarn is so soft and silky. You can choose your own color combinations. I think a white and red or pink and red would make a great Valentine’s Day hat. I have included the free written pattern along with the free YouTube video tutorials. You will find them on the following pages.

This hat should fit most women and older children.

(every effort has been made to make sure it’s error free but I’m only human and errors happen)
hdc= half double crochet
hdc2tog = half double crochet 2 together (decrease)
sl st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
ch = chain
ks = knit stitch
ea = each
st = stitch
mc = main color
cc = contrasting color
For this first section the main color will be grey (or choose your own) The contrasting color will be pink.
Brim:
Begin with MC Chain 12, hdc in each stitch beginning on 3rd chain from hook
ROW 2 – 41: turn work, ch 2, hdc in each stitch working in the back loop only. Repeat row 2 until your piece measures approximately 2 inches less than the measurement around your head. My piece was 18 inches. The number of rows you need will depend on your head measurement.
Fold piece and sl st across the top. Be sure to catch all loops. Do not cut yarn
Lower Hat: (section 1)
Row 1: ch 1, work 60 sc evenly across entire edge, sl st into first ch
Tip: I divided my piece into 4 sections. I used stitch markers to divide the sections. This makes it easier to work stitches evenly.

Your knit stitches will be worked in the mc (grey) and the knit stitches will be worked in pink (cc). Do not make your pink floats too tight or your hat will not stretch. Do not cut the yarn when going up the rows. Simply bring the yarn up with you. (See the photo tutorials for a demonstration).
