This blog is for you. What kind of crafts do you want to see featured?

Decisions, Decision, Decision. I need all of your help. In deciding what types of crafts to post I need your input. What type of crafts do you want to see?

As many of you know I love to knit, crochet, and sew. However, I do many other types of crafting as well as some tole painting, polymer clay, beading, card making, etc. So I want to make a survey and find out what type of projects and product demos do you want to see?

Is there a particular pattern for a project you want to see demonstrated. A new item that you have seen but are unsure about purchasing? Your answers will help me in approaching manufactures to provide some items for demos and possibly for giveaways.  I will always give you my honest opinion on items.  Is it worth the money or not.  I hate wasting my hard earned cash on products that just don’t deliver.

I am also looking for crafty people who would like to write a guest blog post. Do you have a great idea or a post on your own blogs you would like to share (With complete credit to you of course and link back to your blog.) Then let me know so we can share it here.

Please write in the comments what type of items/crafts you want to learn. I would like to start to share technique posts for different crochet and knit stitches. Also, I want to start a new sewing series to teach people how to use a basic pattern and sewing machine. These are just some of the things I want to share. Would you prefer to see a series? These are all the things I want to hear from you.  I am new to the blogging game and so we are in this together.  This is YOUR blog.

I created this blog to be a community where we can share our love of crafting.   As a thank you for participating I will have a drawing and 3 winners will each win 1 crochet pattern of their choice from my Ravelry store.

Can you guess what I made?

stitch markers

How many times have you been upset when you little plastic stitch markers break?  I have gone back and can’t find the stitch markers.  I know sometimes we need a lot of markers but others times you may only need 1 or 2… well, whether you need 1 or 10 I came up with something much prettier and easy to make.

When I was at StitchesWest 2015 I saw so many vendors that were selling different types of stitch markers. I thought what a great idea.  I thought maybe I was the only one making my own beaded stitch markers, lol.   Anyway I decided to make a quick video showing you how I do it.  To be quite honest it’s so easy to do that I hesitated uploading the video.    I like to make my own beaded jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets etc.  This is very similar to that.   You will need some simple jewerly/beading supplies which can all be purchased at your local craft stores such as Michaels, Joann’s, Hobby Lobby, etc.   The great thing about these stitch markers is that they will be made to your own preferences.  You choose your own beads, colors, etc.  The only thing I will caution you is to be careful not to make them too heavy as they may stretch out your work.  They can be made for knitting or crochet.  The knit stitch markers I made will fit up to a 10.5 size needle since I rarely make anything that requires a bigger needle.  I do have a stitch markers with a larger ring.   I explain how to do it in the video.  I hope you will enjoy it!

Did I forget to mention these make great gifts and are big sellers at craft fairs?

Easy to Crochet Rose

Adding a Crochet Rose to any item is a beautiful way to embellish your hats, scarfs, blankets, etc.  This crochet rose is easy to make.  It has become one of my favorites crochet rose and I really like how easy and fast it is to make.   You can use any size hook (appropriate for yarn weight) and any type of yarn. To make this large rose 4″ (10cm) I am using a size J/10 6.00mm and medium weight yarn.  You can adjust the size by changing up the size of your hook.  The larger the hook, the larger the rose.  The smaller the hook the smaller the rose.

Easy to Crochet Rose

Easy to Crochet Rose Instructions:

To begin:  Chain 74
Row 1: 1 hdc in each chain beginning in 2nd chain from hook.
Row 2: ch 3, skip 2 st, sc, *skip 2 st, sc* repeat from * to * to end of row
Row 3: (1st third of ch-3 spaces),  ch 1 (counts as sc), [hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc] all in same ch-3 sp, *[sc, hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc] all in next ch-3 sp*, repeat from * to * for your remaining first third of work (stop when you reach your stitch marker).
Row 3: (2nd third of ch-3 spaces), *[hdc, 5dc, hdc] all in next ch-3 sp*, repeat from * to * for next 1/3 of stitches (stop when you get to your next stitch marker)
Row 3: (last 1/3 of ch-3 spaces), *[hdc, 7 dc, hdc] all in next ch-3 sp*,  repeat from * to * to end of row, fasten off
Sewing the rose together:  To begin:  Roll strip like you would a fruit roll-up.  You will begin sewing the bottom edge of the strip (on the first row of hdc) the petals will remain free.  Work a little a time.  This is the wrong side of your work.
Keep rolling and sewing your rose to your previous rolls… your piece will be taking shape on the reverse side.   To see a video tutorial you can go to my YouTube video tutorial.   When you finish rolling up and sewing your row (bottom edge)  sew in your tails.  You can now sew on a clip or  just sew your rose onto a hat, scarfs, etc.   I prefer to sew  a jewelry type of brooch pin to the back of the rose.  This allows me to remove the rose from my item in order to be able to wash my items or to use my rose on multiple pieces.     I hope you enjoy this Rose.
