CAL (Crochet along) announcement – Baby Layette Set

layette

I absolutely love making baby items.  It just makes me so happy to think of a little baby wearing something that I made with love especially for them.  I know to some the idea of a handcrafted baby layette may seem quaint or old-fashioned but I love it.  If that makes me weird so be it.  I wanted to share this little layette set with my youtube viewers.   Beginning on June 24, 2015 I will begin a crochet along series for this baby set.   The pattern is available for download as a PDF file from LeisureArts.com.  The purchase price is currently set to $5.99 for the set.  (US Dollars).   I wanted to give everyone advance notice so that you will have time to purchase your pattern and supplies if you would like to participate.  I have received permission from Leisure Arts to be able to film and share the video tutorials for this little set.  Purchasing the pattern is optional (you can still view the videos) but it is a great things to have for your own files and it will help you learn to read patterns as well.

I am not being paid for provide these videos.  The only form of compensation I will receive is a small commission from the pattern purchase if you purchase thru the following link:   Baby Layette Pattern     I hope you will consider purchasing the pattern as this small amount of commission will help to offset some of the expense of providing the free video tutorials.

The pattern contains the materials list for the set.  It also breaks down what will be needed by item in case you don’t want to make every item.  The set includes the the bonet, sacque/sweater, booties, and the blanket.  The size is for approximately 6 – 9 months old and the blanket measure 43 inches square.

If you would like to participate in this Crochet Along you still have time to purchase your pattern and supplies.

I think this set makes a beautiful gift for baby showers or for that special little baby in your life.    I look forward to having all of you join me in this CAL.

Hugs and Kisses,

Yolanda

This can cozy uses only basic crochet stitches and works up super fast.   It’s also a great way to use up your yarn scraps.  I have also included the link to a free Video Tutorial for visual learners.  You will find the link on the last page of this post.

Flower Friday – Layer flower

Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 3.10.53 PM

Hello everyone, so sorry I’ve been MIA for the last week.  I was just finishing up on a major project and it consumed most of my time.

Today I want to share another flower with you.  It is super easy to make.  You can make 2 or 3 layers or even just one.  I just lay them on top of each other and use them to embellish other items such as the flip flops in the photo above.  Summer will be here soon and it’s time to dress up those flip flops.  I hope you enjoy this project.

Flower: Use different size hooks for different sizes .  I used a size G hook.  The small flower in the center is worked separately and then sewn onto the 2 layer flower.

To begin: 2-layer flower G Hook (Medium weight yarn)

Chain 5, sl st into 1st ch
Round 2: ch 4, (3 ch  counts as 1dc), *sc into circle, ch 3*, rep from * to * 3 more times, ch 3, sc into 1st ch
Round 3: * sl st into the ch-3 space (to work petals inside these spaces), ch 3, 8 dc into ch-3 sp, ch 3, sc into same ch-3 space * repeat until you have completed all 5 petals, sc into 1st st.   (If you like the way this looks you can fasten off after this layer and you’re done).
Push petals to the front.
Ch 4: *ch 5, sc into next sc,* rep until you have worked all 5 petals. You will be creating ch-5 loops behind the first row of petals.
Ch 5: (change colors – optional) ch 4, [11 tbc in next ch-5 sp, ch 4, sc into same ch-5 sp], sl st into next ch-5 sp,* rep from * to * in each petal, ch 4, sl st into 1st st

Top Layer is made separately and sold on top :

Small 5 petal flower:   G hook

Ch 4, sl st into 1st ch to form circle
Round 2: *ch 3, 2dc (into circle) sc into circle* rep from * to * until you have worked 5 petals, sc, fasten off.

You can sew this small flower on top of your other 2 layer flower.

vintage bonnet1

Do you ever feel nostalgic for days gone by?   Well, okay I have to admit that sometimes I do.  I love to look thru old books and see romantic movies with all of those wonderful Victorian fashions.  I don’t know how wonderful it would actually be if I had to wear those corsets or other uncomfortable clothing.  But, hey they look nice.   With that in mind I designed this baby bonnet.  It reminds me of those little vintage bonnets.    It is easy to make and uses basic stitches.   If you are a blog member you will  receive an email with a  coupon code that can be used at my Ravelry store.  This code will allow you to get this English written pattern free as a thank you for being a blog member.    Becoming a member is easy and it’s free.  Just look at the upper right hand corner of this page.  There is a box for you to sign up.

This blog is for you. What kind of crafts do you want to see featured?

Decisions, Decision, Decision. I need all of your help. In deciding what types of crafts to post I need your input. What type of crafts do you want to see?

As many of you know I love to knit, crochet, and sew. However, I do many other types of crafting as well as some tole painting, polymer clay, beading, card making, etc. So I want to make a survey and find out what type of projects and product demos do you want to see?

Is there a particular pattern for a project you want to see demonstrated. A new item that you have seen but are unsure about purchasing? Your answers will help me in approaching manufactures to provide some items for demos and possibly for giveaways.  I will always give you my honest opinion on items.  Is it worth the money or not.  I hate wasting my hard earned cash on products that just don’t deliver.

I am also looking for crafty people who would like to write a guest blog post. Do you have a great idea or a post on your own blogs you would like to share (With complete credit to you of course and link back to your blog.) Then let me know so we can share it here.

Please write in the comments what type of items/crafts you want to learn. I would like to start to share technique posts for different crochet and knit stitches. Also, I want to start a new sewing series to teach people how to use a basic pattern and sewing machine. These are just some of the things I want to share. Would you prefer to see a series? These are all the things I want to hear from you.  I am new to the blogging game and so we are in this together.  This is YOUR blog.

I created this blog to be a community where we can share our love of crafting.   As a thank you for participating I will have a drawing and 3 winners will each win 1 crochet pattern of their choice from my Ravelry store.
