Summer is here and what better way to prepare than by crochet some fun and pretty plant pot covers. There is no need to be stuck with plain plant pots. Some of my favorite pots have started to look a little old, and a bit worn out. They definitely needed a makeover. Since I love to crochet I decided what better way to spruce them up than by crocheting some pretty covers.

I used acrylic yarn in this example but cotton yarn would also make a great choice. The plant pot that I decided to cover were purchased at my local Dollar Tree store. In case you haven’t heard items are no longer priced at $1.00 but rather prices have increased to $1.25. I see that inflation has even hit our favorite discount store. Still, the price is right to pick up some plastic planter pots and get started with this project.

What I like about these fun and pretty plant pot covers is that you can use whatever colors you have on hand. It’s also a perfect project for using partial skeins of yarn. I hate to throw away yarn and with a little creativity you can create solid colors covers or use several colors for fun stripes.

Crochet Planters Covers/Cozy Instructions:

Supplies:

3 oz. Medium Weight yarn of your choice

L Hook (8 mm)

Scissors

Yarn needle

Optional embellishments such as ribbon, silk flowers, etc.

To begin:

Working with 2 strands at the same time thru out project.

Chain 4, slip stitch into first chain to form a circle

Round 1: chain 3, (counts as double crochet here and thru out project), 7 double crochet into circle, slip stitch into the third chain (starting dc) ( 8 stitches)

Round 2: chain 3, dc into same stitch, 2 dc into each remaining stitch, slip stitch into third chain (16 stitches)

Round 3: chain 3, dc into same stitch, dc, * 2 dc into next stitch, dc,* repeat from * to *, slip stitch into 3rd chain (24 stitches)

Round 4: (Working in back loops only) chain 3, 1 dc into each stitch, slip stitch into 3rd chain (24 stitches)

Round 5: chain 3, dc into same stitch, dc into next 5 stitches, *2dc (increase), dc into next 5 stitches* repeat from * to *, slip stitch into third chain ( 28 stitches)

Round 6: chain 3, dc into same stitch, 1 dc into next 6 stitches, * 2dc (increase), dc into next 6 stitches*, repeat from * to *, slip stitch into third chain ( 32 stitches)

Round 7 – 9: chain 3, dc into each stitch, slip stitch into third chain (32 stitches)

Optional trim: ch 1, reverse single crochet into each stitch (crab stitch) fasten off, and sew in tails. Embellish as desired.

DIY Bucket Hat – Crochet Pattern

It’s hard to believe it’s already 2020! I am hoping 2022 will be a much better year than 2021. If you follow me on YouTube or Facebook you already know that 2021 was a tough year for me and my family. So much loss. I want to thank everyone for their support, it has meant to much to us.

Onto happier things… even though it’s winter I still look forward to warmer weather every year. San Diego has been unusually cold and wet this winter. I know we are spoiled with good weather. I’m not quite prepared when it gets chilly or get too much rain. We really needed the rain since California has been in a state of drought for many years now.

In preparation for the warmer weather I decided to make an DIY Bucket Hat – Crochet Patten. This bucket hat is easy to make and it is so comfortable. It’s a fun way to protect your face from the sun. Using only basic crochet stitches you will be wearing your new bucket hat in no time at all. I really hope you like it.

I chose to use cotton yarn since I suspect this hat might end up getting wet. I plan to wear it to the beach and park outings. I like the fact that it can be embellished with flowers, patches, etc. Even a silk flower will look nice. You can use whatever fiber yarn you prefer but remember it will be warmer than cotton. Cotton is cool and it breathes well.

I will be crocheting the woman’s size, but will give some hook size suggestions for other sizes. Just remember, everyone has different tension when crocheting so sizes will vary. The good things is that yarn does stretch so it is very forgiving.

I have finally entered into the wonderful world of using a Cricut Maker. I have been intrigued by Cricut products for a very long time. Using the Cricut Maker really is like magic. I can see that this will open up a whole new world of creating possibilities. Let me share my own experience with you.

I was fortunate enough to have my friends @OfficialCricut provide me with the latest Cricut Maker in a beautiful champagne shade along with enough supplies to create several items. I must admit that I was intimidated by the thought of using such a powerful tool as the Cricut Maker. Even unboxing it seemed daunting.

Anytime we look at the possibility of a learning curve I hesistate, especially if it involves a new technology. I didn’t need to be intimidated as it turns out that there are tons of user-friendly, how-to videos provided on The Official Cricut Facebook Group page. Everything from how to unbox your Cricut Maker to how to set-up up and pair with your computer. (Or other device). Following the instructions I was up and running in no time at all.

Here are 10 tips and tricks to make you an Amigurumi pro. Have you always wanted to try crocheting Amigurumi? Maybe you have already ventured into the world of crochet amigurumi and have had some success or maybe some failures.

Today, I want to share some helpful tips to make your crochet amigurumi so much better. Follow these tips and tricks and you too can become an Amigurumi Pro.

Amigurumi is a method in crochet used to create mostly toys. It can be used to make play food, dolls, etc. The list is almost unlimited. However, crocheting amigurumi can come with some unique challenges. I’d like to offer some solutions to the most common problems. Please note: Tips are not necessarily in order of importance.

Here we go.. 10 Tips & Tricks to make you an Amigurumi Pro

Tip 1: Don’t overstuff your items. – I get this question so often that I think it bears repeating. So many people write to me to complain that the stuffing in their amigurumi are showing thru the stitches of their items.

I think it’s natural to want to really stuff toys tightly. Overstuffing your toys is a sure way to stretch out the stitches and have the stuffing show thru to the outside. Please resist the urge to overstuff. Use your hands to help give your toys the correct shape.

Remember, most of these items are toys and babies and children prefer soft, cuddly toys as opposed to stiff, hard toys. (Free YouTube Video tutorial on last page of this blog post.)
