10 Easy, Beginner Crochet Stitch Patterns

Today I would like to share 10 Easy, Beginner Crochet Stitch Patterns.  These patterns can be used to make blankets, afghans, scarfs, tablerunners and many other projects.

I have added some of my favorite stitch patterns.   Most of these patterns are video tutorials but I’m sure you will still find it useful information.

These 10 Easy, Beginner Crochet Stitch Patterns can be made using any size hook as long as the hook size is appropriate to the weight of yarn used.

You can make the pattern larger by using a larger hook and heavier weight yarn.  The opposite would be true for making the pattern smaller;  Use a smaller hooker and lighter weight yarn for a smaller pattern.

The best way to determine how many chains you’ll need for your project is to crochet a gauge swatch.  Once your swatch is made you can measure your piece to determine how many chains you will need to get your desired width for your project.

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Crochet Top

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Crochet Top, that’s the name I came up for this top ?  A beautiful warm summer day to wear it of course.

Summer is around the corner and I can’t wait. I love to crochet and knit but with warm weather,  it is sometimes a challenge.

I have tricks I use to help me combat the heat.  One way to get around that is to create and design items that use lighter weight yarn or are easier to handle in the heat.

I wanted to create something that would be ideal for wearing on those hot summer days.  I designed this crochet halter top using cotton yarn.  Cotton breathes and is more comfortable to wear during warm weather.

This cotton is made by Yarnspirations  It is called Peaches & Creme and I used a solid white color for my top.  I love using this yarn because it’s easy to find and easy on the wallet.

I purchased my yarn at walmart but it can be purchased at other retailers.   I also created a video tutorial if you are more of a visual learner.   It can be crocheted in Woman sizes S – XL.

Princess Leia inspired Amigurumi Doll

I love Star Wars and Princess Leia has always been one of my favorite characters.  She is tough, fearless, smart and a courageous leader but she still has a sense of humor.  Plus she could rock those Inter-Galatic fashions.  You can imagine how sad I was to hear that Carrie Fisher the actress who played Princess Leia passed away this past month, December 2016.  It seems like 2016 was a tough year for celebrities we love.  So many of them were taken away from us.   I wanted to find a way to pay tribute to Carrie Fisher.  This little Princess Leia inspired Ami doll seemed a good way to do that.   I had originally planned on sharing this project in February 2017.  However, now might be a more fitting time.  I hope you enjoy crocheting her.   I have also uploaded a series of YouTube video tutorials for those of you who prefer a more visual approach.  I broke them down into 4 videos.   I have included that link in the last page of this post.  You can also go to my YouTube channel to find lots of other fun projects.   All Crafts Channel

Crochet Along with the fabulous Kristin Omdahl

Stitches West

Kristin Omdahl and Yolanda Soto-Lopez

Announcing a CAL Crochet Along Project with the Fabulous Kristin Omdahl

I finally got to meet Kristin Omdahl last year when I attended the Stitches West show in Santa Clara, Ca.  We were introduced thru our mutual friend Zee Pacheco.  I loved her instantly.  Her sense of humor, wit, authenticity and warmth really drew me to her as a friend.  We became quick friends.  Although we live on separate coasts of the USA.  I’m in California and she is in Florida.  Thru the use of technology we were able to grow our friendship.  We have been able to chat thru Facebook and thru Skype (video).  Isn’t Skype great?  It allows you to stay in contact with people while actually seeing them.

We thought it would be fun to work together on a project.  We decided to design an afghan together.  Each of us will be making 3 squares.  Every week we will take turns sharing our square on our YouTube channels and blogs.  Not only will you be able to see the video tutorial for each square but you will then be able to go to our blogs to download the written instructions for each square.

Fun and Easy Granny Square Coffee Cup Cozy

coffe cup cozy

Here is today’s project: A Fun and Easy Granny Square Coffee Cup Cozy

This is a fun and easy Granny square coffee cup cozy.   If you’re like me you probably have tons of partially used skeins of yarn.  I just can’t seem to throw out even small amounts of yarn out.  I know if I just think a little I can come up with ways to use these small scraps of yarn and make something beautiful.   For many of you January is one of the coldest months of the year.  I must admit I live in a suburb of San Diego, California and we are blessed with pretty awesome weather year round.  However for those of you not so fortunate I wanted to come up with a project that uses up your yarn scraps.  I’ve used  colorful spring colors to make winter more bearable.    This is what I came up with a fun and easy Granny Square coffee cup cozy.   It’s a great way to use up your scraps. Plus it had to be pretty enough to give away as a gift.  (Teachers day,   Mother’s Day, etc.).  You can choose your own colors if you prefer.  I can just imagine this with pretty shades or orange and maybe a yellow center.
