Crochet Olympic Snowboarder Inspired Hat – Beginner Level

The Winter Games are here and now I wanted to share my version of an Crochet Olympic Snowboarder Inspired Hat.  The hat that is getting all the attention at the winter games was worn by Olympic Snowboarder Chloe Kim.  Not only did she win Gold for the USA but she looked great doing it.  She was sporting a really cute Knit hat which used chunky yarn.   The brim was folded over and it had a nice USA patch on it.  I still have not been able to find the exact red USA patch but I’m still working on it.  I wanted to make a crochet version of her hat.

The hat is really easy to make and it is a beginner level project.   I used a weight 5 yarn (Patons Classic Wool Bulky) but you can use any Bulky weight (weight 5) yarn you like.  This is some yarn I had available and I liked the color.  The hat worn by the Olympic Snowboarder Chloe Kim is a much lighter color.  The color I used is a little darker but of course you can make your hat whichever color you prefer.

This Crochet Olympic Snowboarder Inspired Hat is so easy to make because it is worked as a flat panel.  Once your panel is the desired size then you seam the sides and gather up the top.  It’s so fast and easy you can make it in less than a couple of hours (most people).  The bulky yarn and large crochet hook make quick work of this hat.

Crochet Super Scarf using Chunky Yarn

Now you can crochet a super scarf using chunky yarn.  I have created this pattern using a Jumbo weight yarn from RedHeart.  It is called “Grande” yarn.  I chose the “Foggy” color since this could work for most wardrobes as it is a neutral color.  Since this super scarf uses this chunky yarn it works up very quickly.  I wanted to design a pattern that would be easy enough for beginners to crochet.  I hope you like this scarf.  I wrapped it around myself several times and it feels so plush and comfy.   I want to thank RedHeart Yarns and Boye for sponsoring this project.  It was a great opportunity to try the Boye ergonomic hooks and the Red Heart Grande yarn.   (photos courtesy of RedHeart Yarns).

I usually don’t use Chunky yarns but creating this pattern allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and use a chunky yarn and the Boye ergonomic hooks.  I am really pleased with how it came out.   I also uploaded a free YouTube video tutorial of this project.    On the next page, I had included the free written pattern and a link to the video tutorial for visual learners.    Enjoy!

Easy to Crochet Baskets – Adjust sizes to fit your needs

Learn to Crochet Baskets

Easy Crochet Baskets

Easy Crochet Baskets

These crochet baskets are so fun and easy to make.  The best part is that you can adjust the size according to your needs.  You can even make several to rest inside of each other.   The crochet baskets I made measured about 12 1/2 inches in circumference and about 8 inches tall.  It is surprising how much fits inside of it.  What is also nice is that when not in use you can just fold it flat and out of the way.   I think crocheting your own baskets is a great way to eliminate landfill waste.  How many times have we seen throw away containers which end up in the landfill since they tear or break so easily.  These Easy to Crochet Baskets are so pretty and you can use them for all types of things.  I filled mine with yarn.  You can use your in kids room to store toys, shoes, etc.  They work great in a baby nursery.

I was featured on NBC News

facing yarn wall  How I was featured on NBC News

(Update:  Since this post I have also been featured on Fox,  Univision, Telemundo, and many other newspapers since my story was picked up by the Associated Press)

Today has been a very exciting day.  I’m not sure if you  follow me on facebook or not.  Well I shared how I have attended the #WeAllGrow summit in Long Beach, California in the beginning or March.  It was a really great summit with hundreds of Latina (mostly) bloggers, creatives, authors, content creators, etc.  The venue was beautiful at the Maya Hotel right next to the water.  We could see the Queen Mary museum from our rooms.  This was my first year attending and it did not disappoint.  I was fortunate enough to be selected by Ana Flores the creator of WeAllGrow and Latina Bloggers Connect to part of a panel.  The panel was titled “How to successfully launch a YouTube channel.”  Although I do not consider myself a YouTube expert I have learned a thing or two in my years as a YouTuber with my “All Crafts Channel” and wanted to share some of my wisdom with others.   I really enjoyed it and met some really nice lifestyle and beauty bloggers with whom I  shared the panel.

The summit had many valuable sessions, workshops, awesome sponsors such as #Dove, #Neutrogena, #Mazda, #YouTube, #TurboTax, #.Me, Aguacates de Mexico, and #O-P-I just to name a few.  The event was really great.  I highly recommend it.  One evening we had a Storytellers event which was moderated by my good friend Kathy Cano-Murillo aka CraftyChica.  Several women shared their inspirational stories.  I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place.
