Bernat Blanket Stitch along – Clue 2 / Week 2

Today I share Clue 2/ Week 2 of the Bernat Blanket Stitch Along.

For the second week’s clue, I chose a different contrast color than week 1.  For this week’s clue,  I am using Contrast color 2 which in case,  is the Bernat Blanket Yarn in Antique White.   I love how this design looks.  It is not something you usually see.

This is a pattern you don’t see very often.  I suspect it might be because people see how gorgeous it is and become intimidated to try to stitch it.  However, I have made every effort to ensure that the video tutorial goes slowly enough for everyone to be able to understand how this stitch is created.    After viewing the video you will hopefully be able to fully understand this stitch and in no time you will be a total pro.  I will share the written pattern and the chart for those who prefer working off of charts.  Either way, I have you covered. Remember, you can stop the video and rewind to view it as many times as you need.  There is also a little gear icon in the lower right-hand side of the video which when selected will allow you to change the speed at which the video plays.  The drop down menu for this icon include a setting for video speed.

Bernat Blanket Stitch Along Week 2 – / Clue 2 of bernat stitch along

This pattern reminds me of candy.  The stitch may be new to some knitters.  This is also a great pattern to use for scarfs or afghans.   The texture is so beautiful.   Using the Bernat Blanket yarn makes it look like little marshmallows.   How yummy!

Crochet Cactus Home Decor. Fun and Ouchie Free!

Crochet Cactus as home decor are such a fun project.   These little crochet cactus  are a great way to use up your yarn scraps.  Using different shades of green also helps to make them more interesting and realistic.    I love the fact that the supplies needed for this project are inexpensive and easy to find.   You can make several of them and place them on a window sill or on a mantle.  Mix them in with “real” plants for fun.

These little Crochet Cactus don’t require watering, any maintenance and best of all they are Ouchie Free.  If Ouchie a word?  Well it was around my house when my kids were growing up.   I hope you enjoy this project.  Be sure to share this post with your friends and family. Keep reading to get more info and the free written pattern.  (I have uploaded a video tutorial if you prefer to watch the video on the last page of this post ).

Crochet Cactus

Crochet Cactus Home decor Project

I recently went on a trip to Texas.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t a fun trip.  My uncle passed away and we traveled to attend his funeral.  While traveling we did stop at several rest areas and shops.  I kept seeing small bowls of different types of cacti.  They are so pretty but I was apprehensive about all the thorns.  I didn’t feel comfortable having to store them up in a box (they wrap them in newspapers) and then unwrapping them when we got home.  I did love the idea of having a few and how beautiful they look.  Several even having little flowers.  What’s a great to do?  Crochet your own of course.  Here is what I came up with.

You will need the following supplies for your Crochet Cactus:

scraps of yarn in various shades of green (you can make them all one shade)

Scraps of colorful yarn for the flowers (flowers are optional)

scissors

stitch marker

polyfiber stuffing (you can also use cotton)

1 small glass container (I purchased mine at my local  Dollar Tree store)

small pebbles ((I purchased mine at my local Dollar Tree store)

yarn needle

Crochet Hook size H/ 5.0mm for the cactus

Crochet Hook size  B / 2.25mm for flowers

bamboo cooking skewers or straws (to hold cactus inside the rocks)

I was featured on NBC News

facing yarn wall  How I was featured on NBC News

(Update:  Since this post I have also been featured on Fox,  Univision, Telemundo, and many other newspapers since my story was picked up by the Associated Press)

Today has been a very exciting day.  I’m not sure if you  follow me on facebook or not.  Well I shared how I have attended the #WeAllGrow summit in Long Beach, California in the beginning or March.  It was a really great summit with hundreds of Latina (mostly) bloggers, creatives, authors, content creators, etc.  The venue was beautiful at the Maya Hotel right next to the water.  We could see the Queen Mary museum from our rooms.  This was my first year attending and it did not disappoint.  I was fortunate enough to be selected by Ana Flores the creator of WeAllGrow and Latina Bloggers Connect to part of a panel.  The panel was titled “How to successfully launch a YouTube channel.”  Although I do not consider myself a YouTube expert I have learned a thing or two in my years as a YouTuber with my “All Crafts Channel” and wanted to share some of my wisdom with others.   I really enjoyed it and met some really nice lifestyle and beauty bloggers with whom I  shared the panel.

The summit had many valuable sessions, workshops, awesome sponsors such as #Dove, #Neutrogena, #Mazda, #YouTube, #TurboTax, #.Me, Aguacates de Mexico, and #O-P-I just to name a few.  The event was really great.  I highly recommend it.  One evening we had a Storytellers event which was moderated by my good friend Kathy Cano-Murillo aka CraftyChica.  Several women shared their inspirational stories.  I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place.

Crochet Heart Mug Cozy

Crochet Heart Mug Cozy it’s cute and easy to make.

Valentine’s Day is as perfect time to make this little Crochet heart coffee cozy.  I can’t believe how time flies when you’re having fun.    Here is a quick and fun little crochet project.  I have been trying to come up with ways to use up my extensive yarn scraps.  (I admit I hate to throw away partly used skeins of yarn).    .  It is fun and easy to make.  They work up so fast you can make one for every special person in your life.  It uses very little yarn.  You could also reverse the colors and make the cover white and the heart red.  It’s really up to you.
