Easy Crochet Ribbed Hat – A beginner level Crochet Hat

An Easy Crochet Ribbed hat was on my list of projects.   With the weather finally turning a little chilly this month I have decided to write up a super easy crochet rib hat pattern.  I wanted it to be able to be easy enough for even beginners to crochet.  The hat is made in a flat panel so there is no need to know how to crochet in the round.  This one is probably one of the easiest and pretty crochet rib hats.

You can choose whatever type of yarn you want.   I used acrylic since I plan to give many of these hats to charity and as we all know not everyone has the time to hand wash.. lay flat to dry, etc.   Acrylic is so forgiving and easy to maintain.  I also like that there are so many colors available that you can find a color to suit just about anyone.

You can adjust the length by just changing the number of beginning chains.  If you don’t want the brim (folded edge) to be so wide just start with fewer chains.  On the other hand, if you plan to wear it as a slouchy and want it longer just begin with more chains.

Supplies needed:

4 oz. of Medium weight yarn

J crochet hook (6.0mm)

scissors

yarn needle

measuring tape

Easy to Crochet Granny Square Top

I was looking for an easy to crochet granny square top.   I like to go to the pool or beach but I’m a bit modest.  I wanted to have a top that I could use as a cover-up.  I wanted to make something quick and easy enough for beginners.   The granny square is one of the first patterns that crocheters learn to make.   This is a super easy and quick project plus it looks great.  This easy to crochet granny square top fits most women sizes.   You can always adjust the size of the top by either using a smaller hook or changing the number of rounds of your granny squares.  If you are making this for a child I would use a G size hook.

Supplies:

2 Granny squares with 8 rounds each.

2 Granny squares with 3 rounds each.

3 Skeins of Creme de la Creme Cotton Yarn from Redheart.com

J /10 Crochet Hook  ( 6mm)

Scissors

Yarn Needle

To Begin:  You will need to crochet 2 granny squares with 8 rounds each.  You will need to crochet 2 granny squares with 3 rounds each.   The two larger granny squares will be used for the front and back of the top.  The two smaller squares will be the sides (underarm) of the top.

You will need to join your squares.  You can join with a yarn needle or by joining with a crochet slip stitch.   I joined my squares with a yarn needle using the same matching yarn.   It is easier if you sew in your tails as you work.  I hate sewing in tails but this makes it so much easier.

Step 1:  Making sure right sides are facing up.  Take one of the large granny squares and sew a small square to each lower corner of the square.  I joined with a simple whip stitch using a yarn needle.

Step 2:  Now flip your piece over so that the wrong sides are facing up.  Now place your second large granny square on top of the other square.  Making sure that wrong sides are facing each other.  Now sew the free sides of the small granny squares to the lower half of the remaining large granny square.

Step 3:  Attach your yarn along top edge of your work, (The bottom edge is the one with the small granny squares).    You will work 2 rows of single crochet along the top edge.  Work 2 single crochet in the underarm corners and work 3 single crochet into the top corners of the large granny squares.   Fasten off and sew in tails.

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Crochet Top

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Crochet Top, that’s the name I came up for this top ?  A beautiful warm summer day to wear it of course.

Summer is around the corner and I can’t wait. I love to crochet and knit but with warm weather,  it is sometimes a challenge.

I have tricks I use to help me combat the heat.  One way to get around that is to create and design items that use lighter weight yarn or are easier to handle in the heat.

I wanted to create something that would be ideal for wearing on those hot summer days.  I designed this crochet halter top using cotton yarn.  Cotton breathes and is more comfortable to wear during warm weather.

This cotton is made by Yarnspirations  It is called Peaches & Creme and I used a solid white color for my top.  I love using this yarn because it’s easy to find and easy on the wallet.

I purchased my yarn at walmart but it can be purchased at other retailers.   I also created a video tutorial if you are more of a visual learner.   It can be crocheted in Woman sizes S – XL.

It’s Fast, Easy and Beautiful! Crochet Shell and Post stitch pattern

It’s Fast, Easy and Beautiful!  Introducing the crochet shell and post stitch pattern.  With warmer weather, I’m looking for patterns that will not be quite as heavy and warm but still look beautiful.  This stitch is ideal for those warmer days.  I’ve used this pattern to make lighter weight baby blankets using a weight 3 yarn of even baby weight yarn.    The pattern is so easy to make and works up very quickly.  I also like the fact that after your first row you can work this pattern while watching tv, or listening to music.  Once your first row is done there really isn’t any counting so it’s perfect for crocheting on the go.

You can use any weight yarn and hook size as long as they are appropriate for each other.  Yarn labels will give you a suggested hook size for each weight yarn. (I know they do in the USA, not sure about other countries).

Fun, Crochet Summer Handbag

Summer is a great time to crochet and this fun, crochet summer handbag is the perfect project.  I made this crochet summer handbag using t-shirt yarn.    I used a product from  Hoooked Zpagetti.  I was given this product when I attended the Association for Creative Industries (Formerly CHA – Crafts and Hobby Association).    Learning of new products if always a highlight of the event.

There are many video tutorials for making your own t-shirt yarn.  You can find tarn (t-shirt yarn) at many stores.  I’m not beginning to see this material used in many different projects including handbags, rugs and even some stuffed animals.  I hope you enjoy this project.   I have also included a link to the video tutorial for visual learners.
