Check out these great Free Crochet Summer Patterns
Warm weather is here but that doesn’t mean I stop crocheting. Here is a round up of some of my favorite summertime patterns. The best part is that they’re all free and pretty easy to make. I even did a youtube video tutorial series for the blue and white Beach Cover up. I have included links to all patterns beneath the photos. I hope you enjoy this round up of free patterns. Many of them can be used year round of course. Please let me know if you make any of these items. Enjoy!
Hello everyone, so sorry I’ve been MIA for the last week. I was just finishing up on a major project and it consumed most of my time.
Today I want to share another flower with you. It is super easy to make. You can make 2 or 3 layers or even just one. I just lay them on top of each other and use them to embellish other items such as the flip flops in the photo above. Summer will be here soon and it’s time to dress up those flip flops. I hope you enjoy this project.
Flower: Use different size hooks for different sizes . I used a size G hook. The small flower in the center is worked separately and then sewn onto the 2 layer flower.
To begin: 2-layer flower G Hook (Medium weight yarn)
Chain 5, sl st into 1st ch
Round 2: ch 4, (3 ch counts as 1dc), *sc into circle, ch 3*, rep from * to * 3 more times, ch 3, sc into 1st ch
Round 3: * sl st into the ch-3 space (to work petals inside these spaces), ch 3, 8 dc into ch-3 sp, ch 3, sc into same ch-3 space * repeat until you have completed all 5 petals, sc into 1st st. (If you like the way this looks you can fasten off after this layer and you’re done).
Push petals to the front.
Ch 4: *ch 5, sc into next sc,* rep until you have worked all 5 petals. You will be creating ch-5 loops behind the first row of petals.
Ch 5: (change colors – optional) ch 4, [11 tbc in next ch-5 sp, ch 4, sc into same ch-5 sp], sl st into next ch-5 sp,* rep from * to * in each petal, ch 4, sl st into 1st st
Top Layer is made separately and sold on top :
Small 5 petal flower: G hook
Ch 4, sl st into 1st ch to form circle
Round 2: *ch 3, 2dc (into circle) sc into circle* rep from * to * until you have worked 5 petals, sc, fasten off.
You can sew this small flower on top of your other 2 layer flower.

Ok, so it’s not exactly a hat but I think it qualifies for Hat Monday since it’s worn on your head. (Did you see how I snuck this in?)
This headband is so fun and easy to make. You will be using medium weight yarn and a size J/10 6.00 mm crochet hook. What I love about this headband is that it’s a great way to use up your scraps and it’s a beginner level project. If you can chain, half double crochet, double crochet and sew a simple seam you can make this. I think making these in your favorite team colors is a great alternative to a hat.. and no more hat head : )
If you would like to purchase the written pattern (English only) It is available here at my Ravelry store.
I am starting a series of some of the hats. I have quite a few beanies/hat tutorials on my YouTube channel. Here is #1 hat in the series.
I love making crochet hats especially with different characters. I get most of my requests for different hats from my grandkids. Since they live in a cold climate they are able to use different hats thru out the season. From hats inspired from favorite cartoon characters to animals I enjoy making them all. I wanted to share one of the basic beanie hat I use as a foundation.
Here is a basic beanie to crochet. I have several suggestions for hook sizes. Usually I use a medium weight yarn. I have also included a link to my YouTube video tutorial in case you are more of a visual learner. If you want to download the free pattern you can download it from my Ravelry Store.
Infant- Size G Hook, Babies Size H hook, Toddler Size I hook. To crochet a beanie for an older child use a size J hook and a medium weight worsted yarn. This makes this the perfect beanie pattern for all sizes. From Baby – adult size. Follow the same pattern.
For adults you can use a size K hook and a heavier weight of yarn (maybe even a chunky weight. The pattern is the same for all sizes. Only the size of hook and weight of yarn changes. This makes this the perfect beanie pattern for all sizes. From Baby – adult size. Follow the same pattern. Happy crocheting
Work Round 1 – 12 the same for both methods.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and thru out) 11 dc into the circle, sl st into top of 3rd ch
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc) dc into same ch, 2 dc in each ch (increase in each ch) for a total of 24 dc’s, sl st into top of 3rd ch
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc) dc into same ch, 2 dc in each ch (increase in eah ch) for a total of 48 dc’s, sl st into top of 3rd ch
Rnd 4 – 12 : ch 3 (counts as dc) dc into next ch, 1 dc in each ch for a total of 48 dc’s in each rnd. Sl st into top of 3rd ch
After round 12, fasten off. Be sure to cut your yarn long enough to be able to sew in your tails. Cutting the yarn too short makes it different to blend in your tail.
