Crochet Along with the fabulous Kristin Omdahl

Stitches West

Kristin Omdahl and Yolanda Soto-Lopez

Announcing a CAL Crochet Along Project with the Fabulous Kristin Omdahl

I finally got to meet Kristin Omdahl last year when I attended the Stitches West show in Santa Clara, Ca.  We were introduced thru our mutual friend Zee Pacheco.  I loved her instantly.  Her sense of humor, wit, authenticity and warmth really drew me to her as a friend.  We became quick friends.  Although we live on separate coasts of the USA.  I’m in California and she is in Florida.  Thru the use of technology we were able to grow our friendship.  We have been able to chat thru Facebook and thru Skype (video).  Isn’t Skype great?  It allows you to stay in contact with people while actually seeing them.

We thought it would be fun to work together on a project.  We decided to design an afghan together.  Each of us will be making 3 squares.  Every week we will take turns sharing our square on our YouTube channels and blogs.  Not only will you be able to see the video tutorial for each square but you will then be able to go to our blogs to download the written instructions for each square.

Online Courses coming soon!

I can’t believe it’s actually happening.  Thanks to everyones support and encouragement I have taken a giant leap.  (OK, it’s giant for me)  As many of you may know I’m not exactly what you would call a “techy”.  As a matter of fact I really struggle with this aspect of sharing my content with everyone.  You see I don’t come from a technology background and sometime I feel totally out of it.   There are times when I listen to people speaking about their sites and use terms like SEO traffic optimization, shopping-cart,  updates,  SSL, etc… to me it might as well be Greek.   I must admit that technology has always kinda scared me.

I don’t know if it’s part of getting older and being used to old school methods.  For example I still actually mail people letters.  Seriously, I love getting a letter in the mail.  Greeting cards are even better.  So, when technology has been a difficult transition.  However, you know what they say innovate or die.  I don’t want to die…… so I have done it.   I have joined the platform called “New Kajabi”    This has been a huge investment for me.   So far it seem easy enough for even me to use it.  What it will allow me to do is something that I have been working on for a very long time.  Create courses that are more detailed, better organized and easily accessible.  I have been searching for a platform that would allow me to do this and reach more people.  This is something that I am really excited about.   This is how it will work:  (OK, this is how I want it to work, fingers crossed.)   I create courses and projects you have requested and upload them to the platform.   I can organize them as single projects of complete courses with several modules.   The modules can include written patterns,  video tutorials,  user feedback, and tons of other great features such as subscriptions/memberships.

Giveaway time! Boye Ergonomic Crochet Hook Set

ergonomic crochet hook set

Boye Ergpnomic Crochet Set

It’s Giveaway Time!

It’s no secret that I love to crochet.  I would crochet 24/7 but alas so many pesky things like housework get in the way.  I had seen this set at Wal-Mart and was curious about it.  It retails at my local Wal-Mart for $19.99 which is a great price since it comes with 7 crochet hooks (Size D /3.5mm  to K /6 1.5 mm) , yarn needles and a carrying case.   It also doesn’t hurt that it’s pink which is one of my favorite colors.    I wanted to try them out and see if they really were comfortable.  I’m always looking for ways to cushion my metal hooks.  I will even wrap a rubber band around my hooks and then slide a gel pencil/pen grip over the top to help avoid hand pain and fatigue.

New way to Yarn-Bomb.. well not exactly but totally Fun

20150425_135254

Have you seen all those photos of yarn bombing?  I think it’s such a fun idea.  However since I am limited in my time I decided to do my own version.  I call it my “Project in a bag”   What I am doing is going around my city and other cities as I travel and hanging up these little bags.  They contain 1 of my printed patterns, 1 plastic crochet hook (in the size needed for the project) and 1 skein of yarn.  I am only choosing projects/patterns that use only 1 skein of yarn.  The supplies have been purchased by me and are not sponsored by any company so you will have different brand yarns in the bags.   I am also attaching my business card with a note on back that reads, “You found my gift.  Enjoy it!”  .

I left one of my little bags at a local park (they are in plastic to protect from water) and waited in the car to see if anyone would find it.  A lady walking her dog found it within five minutes.   She took it off the fence read the note and smiled ear to ear.  Her friend then read the note too.  They did a high five and left smiling ear to ear.  I love spreading yarn happiness.  : )

Be on the look out you may just find one of my bags in a town where you live. If you would like to enter for a chance to win one of my bags. (I will be giving away 10) then please do the following;   1) Become a member of this blog and 2) Leave a comment. Winner will be chosen in 2 weeks. The giveaway is open worldwide.  I know this isn’t the regular way to yarn bomb but I want to spread yarn happiness all around me.   Good luck.

UPDATE:  Winners have been selected and notified

Minion Fingerless Gloves

Minion inspired projects seem to be everywhere.  I must admit that soon I will reach the point of saturation when perhaps I will be over them.  Luckily that time hasn’t yet arrived.  This week my granddaughter asked me to make her some fingerless gloves (also known as wristers).  She specifically said she wanted them to resemble the Minions.  Since wristers are pretty basic to make and I had already written an eyeball pattern I decided to combine them here.  I hope you enjoy this project.
