Fun and Easy Granny Square Coffee Cup Cozy

coffe cup cozy

Here is today’s project: A Fun and Easy Granny Square Coffee Cup Cozy

This is a fun and easy Granny square coffee cup cozy.   If you’re like me you probably have tons of partially used skeins of yarn.  I just can’t seem to throw out even small amounts of yarn out.  I know if I just think a little I can come up with ways to use these small scraps of yarn and make something beautiful.   For many of you January is one of the coldest months of the year.  I must admit I live in a suburb of San Diego, California and we are blessed with pretty awesome weather year round.  However for those of you not so fortunate I wanted to come up with a project that uses up your yarn scraps.  I’ve used  colorful spring colors to make winter more bearable.    This is what I came up with a fun and easy Granny Square coffee cup cozy.   It’s a great way to use up your scraps. Plus it had to be pretty enough to give away as a gift.  (Teachers day,   Mother’s Day, etc.).  You can choose your own colors if you prefer.  I can just imagine this with pretty shades or orange and maybe a yellow center.

10 Tips For Crocheters and Knitters. Can you guess what they are?

Here are my 10 Tips for Crocheters and Knitters:

Crocheting and knitting are two of my favorite pastimes.  I really enjoy spending my time in a comfy chair with my yarn and hook (or needles).  So many people ask me to give them some tips for becoming great crocheters or knitters.   Here is some advise/ tips that I would like to share with you.  They might be different from what you’ve heard before but as many might know I feel that if you’re not having fun you’re not doing it right.  Fiber arts for me is about being able to express  my creativity in a positive way.  It’s about enjoying myself regardless of what others may think.  I have been crocheting for over 40 years.  When I was a young woman in my early 20’s people would always make the dumb commends such as, “Why do you crochet?  Isn’t that for grandmas?”   Well, I didn’t care I kept going.  Now I can say that yes I am a grandma and I am still crocheting and knitting.  Although I must confess that neither crochet or knitting are my strongest craft..can you guess what it is?  Well.. It’ sewing and quilting.  I can really rock a sewing machine.  (Without meaning to sound vain of course).  My mother taught me to sew when I was just 6 years old and those times sewing together with my mother are some of the happiest memories of my childhood.  Thank you mother for taking time to allow  me to enjoy my creativity.

Ok, onto the tips.  They are not in order of important I just had to write  them down.

My new Knit lovie animal book is now available

I wanted to share the news;  My new knit animal lovie book is now available.  Gee, I didn’t know you could knit.   I hear this a lot.  But the fact is that yes, I am bi-stitchual… is that a word?   I enjoy just about every craft.  I still haven’t delved too much into scrapbooking.   I have made some cards and have basic supplies but the bug hasn’t hit me yet.

I learned that my new Knit Animal Lovies book is now available at LeisureArts.com   I designed 12 animal lovies but these are the 10 that were the final selections.    Each square has a different design so you can mix and match whichever square you like to the lovie of your choice.  I had so much fun making this.  I have a Crochet lovie book and people wanted a knit book.   These designs are different from those in the Crochet book.   (a couple overlap like the Puppy and Owl).     The books will be available in crafts stores such as Joann’s, Hobby Lobby, Knit Picks, Amazon, and many others  in January 2016.    It is a great value.

I wanted to share the info with all of you.  I know that many of you knit and Animal lovies make a great gift for little ones.  I love making these to give at Baby showers.    I wanted to share a few photos with you.  If you want to order your copy please go to this link:   Knit Animal Lovies Book

.  I’m really happy with how the book turned out.  I think you are really going to like it.  Keep on reading to see some photos of the lovies in the book.

How to sew Crochet Granny Squares together.. Easy Peasy!

How to Sew Crochet square together

Learn to Sew Crochet Granny Squares Together

In this post I will teach you how to sew (seam) crochet pieces together.   Here I will demonstrate with a granny square but the same methods apply for other pieces as well.

I love crocheting and knitting but the one thing I really don’t enjoy that much is when I need to seam (sew) pieces together.  I know we’ve all been there.  We have just completed our last granny square and now the daunting task of sewing them all together is before us.  Well.. that and sewing in tails is another drudgery I would love to avoid.

If I had a magic wand I would just magically make all those tails go away and have all my pieces magically sew themselves together.   But alas no such luck.

Easy Crochet Snowman Ornament

Christmas season is in full swing.  It seems every store has their Christmas decorations up and on display.  I see so many cute Christmas ornaments.  Some affordable and others not so much.  Since time seems to be at a premium I wanted to share a quick project.  These little snowman ornaments meet the requirements of quick, easy and cute.   We used to make these little ornaments when we were kids so it brings back great memories.   You can use them on the tree or put them on your presents in place of a bow.

You can make them with any type of yarn (and weight) and hook size.   Of course the bigger and heavier the yarn the bigger the snowman.   This is a good project for using up your yarn scraps.    I uploaded a youtube video tutorial and it has been well received.
