Crochet Santa Hat

Santa Hat

Crochet Santa Hat

I tried something different on my YouTube channel today.  It’s hard to believe that we are now into the Christmas season.  OK, let’s be honest tomorrow is Thanksgiving but after tomorrow it will be here…in full bloom:  Christmas season.   I realize that even saying Christmas is no longer politically correct for many.  Things like Winter Holidays seems to be what is popular.   In my home we celebrate Christmas and so do many of my friends.   That includes shopping for Christmas tree.  Bringing our our ornaments and decorations.   Most of the people in my neighborhood will put up Christmas lights on their homes and decorate their lawns.

I will probably be invited to go Christmas caroling although to be on the safe side I try not to sing.  Singing is not my forte.   I wanted to make something fun to wear during the season.  I came up with this fun and cute Santa Hat with buckle.   I have sized it for various sizes including children and adults.   I am doing something a little different with this video.  I am making it available for purchase on my channel.   I wanted to make it something that is affordable.  This is a step-by-step tutorial like most of my other videos.  It runs for about 45 minutes.   What I like about it is that it uses basic stitches and techniques.   As much as I would love to continue providing all free videos I need to start making some more income to be able to pay my bills and expenses which include the expenses for running the channel and this blog.   It takes many hours for each new video which doesn’t even include creating the pattern.  Making the item and having it tested.  Then there is the filming and video editing.   A half hour video can take up to 40 hours to create.   I hope you will support me in this endeavor.  I realize that money might be tight.  This is why there are still over 610 free videos available on my channel.   Those will continue to be free.  I will also continue to upload other free videos.  The end of the year is here and expenses are high.  Thanks for understanding and your support.

XOXO,

Yolanda

A Crochet Snowman Ornament….Fast, Cute and Easy!

Crochet Curly Q snowman ornament

Easy Crochet Snowman ornament

Easy Crochet Snowman Ornament

Christmas season is in full swing.  It seems every store has their Christmas decorations up and on display.  I see so many cute Christmas ornaments.  Some affordable and others not so much.  Since time seems to be at a premium I wanted to share a quick project.  These little snowman ornaments meet the requirements of quick, easy and cute.   We used to make these little ornaments when we were kids so it brings back great memories.   You can use them on the tree or put them on your presents in place of a bow.

You can make them with any type of yarn (and weight) and hook size.   Of course the bigger and heavier the yarn the bigger the snowman.   This is a good project for using up your yarn scraps.    I uploaded a youtube video tutorial and it has been well received.

Help! I need you to participate in our annual Hat & Scarf Drive

I am writing this post to ask for help.  That’s right, I can’t do it alone.  For over a decade now my husband and I have been supporting the Lily of the Valley orphanages in Mexico.  There are 3 total (so far).  1 is located in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and 2 others are located in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.   Each Christmas I like to coordinate a Hat and scarf drive for the children of the orphanages.   This is a chance for children to receive a new hat and scarf set made with love.   This year once again I am running the drive.   We are in need of hats and scarfs for both sexes and for ages Infant to 18 years of age.
You can make any style of hat.  It can be crochet, knit, loom, or sewn.  Our goal is to receive 800 sets.  This will ensure that each child will receive a set.  I would also like to request baby blankets (approximately 33 x 35 inches) or lap afghans for the younger children.  Many people seem surprised to learn that Mexico has some very cold regions.  Not every part is tropical.   I hope you will consider participating.

This is sized for a women/older teenager.  To adjust for a child Check out these hook suggestions.   Everyone crochets differently.  I tend to crochet tightly especially after my hands are tired.

This sizing chart are just suggestions.  Try the hat on the recipient probably before making your last 3 rows of the green (after Round 19);  If it’s too tight just repeat one more row of increases.   I hope you enjoy this fun hat.  Remember, after this post free written patterns will be emailed every 2 weeks to members only.   If you want to receive my bi-weekly newsletter  (It will be short, I promise)  and free written patterns for any projects created that week (I will also start adding patterns for past videos) you need to sign up to become a member.  Sign-up is easy.  Just submit your email when you see the membership signup notice.   I need your email in order to send you the newsletter, patterns and other goodies.  Basic membership is free.
