Crochet a Knit Stitch and Fair Isle Hearts Hat

Fair Isle Hearts Hat

Today I will share my newest hat;  a hat using the knit stitch and Fair Isle Stitches.  It was inspired by a knit hat that was released by Caron yarns a few years ago.  It was on a little handout that you get from the yarn aisles.   I used the Simply Soft by Caron yarns by Yarnspirations.  The yarn is so soft and silky.  You can choose your own color combinations.  I think a white and red or pink and red would make a great Valentine’s Day hat.   I have included the free written pattern along with the free YouTube video tutorials.  You will find them on the following pages.

Easy Crochet Cowl – Super Chunky Yarn project

Easy Crochet Cowl using Super Chunky Yarn

I’m always looking for fast, and easy project and this easy crochet cowl fills the spot.   I know it’s hard to believe but it’s actually been a little cold here in what is usually a very sunny San Diego.  One of the things that I do miss about living in our beautiful city is the opportunity to wear a lot of things items that I enjoy making.  It just doesn’t get cold enough.   Oh sure on very rare occasions it gets cold enough to wear a hat.  We even get snow at times in the mountains east of our city so today when the temperature dipped below 60 Fahrenheit  I had a field day.  Purchase an Ad-Free PDF Written pattern here:   http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chunky-cowl-26

Easy Crochet Cowl

Easy Crochet Cowl

I whipped up this quick cowl using a Super Chunky weight 7 yarn. I used RedHeart Grande yarn in the color Foggy. This cowl worked up so quickly. It only took 3 balls. It’s hard to believe but the whole is just 7 rounds.

Using the super chunky yarn makes this one of the fastest projects I have made in a long time. The cowl is wide enough to even cover my head or to be folded and worn lower on my neck and chest. Either way, it’s super warm and the yarn feels very warm.

I hope you enjoy this project. I’m going to have to keep it in a file and remember to make some of these for Christmas gifts next year.

Supplies needed for your Easy Crochet Cowl:

3 balls of RedHeart Grande –  I used 3 balls (5.20 oz / 150g )

scissors

yarn needle with large eye

Crochet Hook Size Q/19  (15mm)

To begin:

Chain 41, being careful not to twist chain slip stitch into the 1st chain.

Row 1:  chain 3 (counts as double crochet here and thru out),  double crochet in each stitch, slip stitch into 3rd turning chain

Row 2:  chain 3, *leave next stitch unworked, double crochet in next stitch, double crochet back into the skipped stitch,*  repeat from * to *  for entire row, slip stitch into 3rd turning chain

Easy to Crochet Messy Bun hat – Fun and Easy!

Yes, I got on the Messy Bun bandwagon

Today I want to share a pattern for an Easy to crochet “Messy Bun” hat.   I have received so many requests for an easy pattern.  So, by popular demand here it is.  This is what I came up with for an “easy” pattern.  You can follow the instructions for rows 11-12 for a mock rib brim or just continue with double crochet for a plain edge hat.  Either way, it looks and fits great.  So, “Let’s Get The Party Started!”

Crochet Fun Snood – Kids of all ages will love this

Kids of all ages will love this crochet fun snood.  It works up quickly when using chunky weight yarn.  I used the Bernat Blanket Yarn from Yarnspirations.  It is soft and I really like the texture.  I used the color:  Pumpkin spice.  The ears I used the chocolate color.  The ears and the snood can be made in other colors if you prefer.  I think this snood is a fun way to stay warm.  The Bernat Blanket yarn is nice and warm.  I made the adult/teenager size.  You can purchase Bernat Blanket Yarn from your local Joann’s store or go online to Yarnspirations.com  for more selection.

Crochet Super Scarf using Chunky Yarn

Now you can crochet a super scarf using chunky yarn.  I have created this pattern using a Jumbo weight yarn from RedHeart.  It is called “Grande” yarn.  I chose the “Foggy” color since this could work for most wardrobes as it is a neutral color.  Since this super scarf uses this chunky yarn it works up very quickly.  I wanted to design a pattern that would be easy enough for beginners to crochet.  I hope you like this scarf.  I wrapped it around myself several times and it feels so plush and comfy.   I want to thank RedHeart Yarns and Boye for sponsoring this project.  It was a great opportunity to try the Boye ergonomic hooks and the Red Heart Grande yarn.   (photos courtesy of RedHeart Yarns).

I usually don’t use Chunky yarns but creating this pattern allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and use a chunky yarn and the Boye ergonomic hooks.  I am really pleased with how it came out.   I also uploaded a free YouTube video tutorial of this project.    On the next page, I had included the free written pattern and a link to the video tutorial for visual learners.    Enjoy!
